Rationale

Volunteer Commitment

Volunteer Commitment was defined by “hours”.

Volunteer Commitment is now defined by “credit”.

FSRA is moving away from defining the commitment by “hours” as some commitments (i.e. Coach, Executive Member, Team Manager, Arena Rep, etc.) are significantly more than the number of hours they were allotted in the commitment. Using “hours” to define the commitment was sometimes misleading as to the time required to complete the tasks.

Volunteer Commitment

Volunteer Commitment was 10 hours per family with players in U10 and up, regardless of the number of children registered as FSRA players.

Volunteer Commitment is 10 credits per family with players in U10 and up for the first child registered and an additional 5 credits per child registered.

Many volunteer hours were unclaimed in the 2022-2023 season and with changes in the tournament format to adapt to the JRC project, there are additional volunteer commitments for future seasons.

Volunteer Commitment

There was no volunteer commitment per family  with children only in Active Start.

Volunteer Commitment is 5 credits per family with players in Active Start for the first child registered and an additional 5 credits per registered child.

As with the U10 and up families, there is a high need for volunteer commitment over the next few years, as FSRA explores some changes to programming, including the tournament, potentially with Active Start as a division.

Bingo Commitment

Bingos were valued as 1 for day time bingos and 2 for evening bingos, with each family having to complete 2 bingos per season. This could mean that a family could complete 1 evening bingo and have their bingo commitment filled for the season.

All bingos are accorded the value of 1, regardless of whether the bingo is during the day or the evening. Each family must complete 2 bingos for the 2023-2024 season..

With one full season of bingos not impacted by COVID restrictions, we have been able to set a baseline of how many bingo slots we have to fill on average per year. This number is significantly higher than what can be completed if evening bingos are valued at double a day time bingo. .

For example, in the 2022-2023 season, there were enough bingo slots for each family to complete over 2.5 bingo slots per registered player, from Active Start to U16.

Respect In Sport for Parents

Families were not required to complete the Respect in Sport for Parents in previous seasons.

Each family must complete and provide their Respect in Sport for Parents current certification number prior to September 1, 2023, for their child to be permitted on the ice.

A dominant theme from the 2022-2023 season, both for FSRA and other ringette associations, was that of parent behaviour and discipline. In order to help minimize the frequency of this behaviour and to align with many other sport associations, families will be required to have a current certification number for Respect in Sport for Parents on their RAMP ringette profile. Note that you may import certificate numbers between different sport versions of the Respect in Sport Parent Program.

Team Position - Credits

Team Staff (Head Coach, Assistant Coach, and Managers) would received 10 volunteer hours per position, with a maximum of 5 positions receiving full hours per team, per season

Team Staff, which includes Head Coach, Assistant Coach, Manager and Treasurer, who submit their application on time and prior to the deadline as laid out by Player/Coach Development Director, will receive 10 volunteer credits per position type, per team.

Maximum number of positions associated per team will stay at 5, unless discussed under special circumstances with Player/Coach Development Director and Volunteering Coordinator.

FSRA recognizes the need of dedicated team staff to be able to field successful teams and this need must also balance the volunteering needs of the association. Introduced in 2022-2023 season was a “cap” on the number of team staff to be able to received volunteering “hours” per team; this will remain in place for 2023-2024, with the changes as follows:

  • Include the role of Treasurer in Team Staff conversation
  • Change the definition from “hours” to “credits” to stay consistent with 2023-2024 change.

Part-time, shared or shift working members do have the option of receiving partial credits, as discussed by the Player/Coach Development Director and Volunteering Coordinator at the start of the season.

Coaching Applications

Coaches (Head and Assistant) who may not have submitted their coaching application prior to the deadline still received their volunteer hours, as long as the other expectations of the positions were met.

Coaches (Head and Assistant) who do not submit their applications prior to the deadline will not receive their 10 volunteer credits for the season, unless specifically requested to fulfil the role by the Player/Coach Development Director.

FSRA is often struggling to have team staff identified prior to the season start with many waiting to see where their player(s) land. By requiring application for these positions to be completed prior to the deadline, FSRA hopes to incentivize people to apply prior to the deadline, allowing FSRA to be able to identify Team Staff gaps earlier in the season.

FSRA will not consider adults volunteering in team staff roles as a determinant of placement for a player (ex: Your application as a Team Manager will not impact your player’s ranking in the evaluation process or assignment to a specific team.).

Team Managers & Team Treasurers Application

Team Managers and Team Treasurers did not have to apply for their positions prior to season start

Team Managers and Team Treasurers will have to submit an application prior to the deadline in order to receive their 10 volunteer credits for the season, unless specifically requested to fulfil the role by the Player/Coach Development Director.
